FAQs

Are there different types of Neurofeedback?

Our clinic offers multiple training protocols that vary in the number of brain waves addressed during training. Each treatment is tailored to the individual patient goals and findings from the QEEG Assessment.

How long does it take to get results?

The number of treatment sessions ranges depending on the treatment chosen, but in general you will begin noticing changes within the first 3-4 weeks. A total treatment course typically ranges from 20 to 30 sessions but in some cases longer training is needed with 60 sessions over 4 to 8 months. Some people, approximately 40%, are quicker responders and will show developing improvements within the first month. However, another 40% of patients are more gradual in their response.

Can I do my session online?

Neurofeedback Treatments can only be provided in person at our clinic. Although there are other forms of ‘Neurofeedback’ advertised as at-home remedies, the in-clinic treatment that is customized to you based on your brain data and symptoms shows the highest efficacy.

What do I wear to my first appointment?

You can wear your usual clothing. However, after a QEEG brain map your scalp and hair on the top of your head may get gel in it and be a little bit wet.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are minimal. However, like any training program (e.g., learning a new sport), initially there can be some fatigue after sessions due to the mental energy needed to train each session, which often goes away after the first few sessions.

Does Neurofeedback Work for Everyone?

Neurofeedback can be quite effective in many cases, but it is important to remember that there is about a 15-20% non-response rate and its impact on certain cases (e.g., brain damage, autism, etc.) will be less than that typically seen for a healthy brain that is having some cognitive/mood issues. It is, like many other approaches, not considered to be a cure. Furthermore, life problems, family issues, and other factors can play a part in a person’s symptoms, in addition to a brain regulation problem. That’s why it is important to treat the entire person which sometimes includes other types of therapy.

Are treatments covered under my insurance?

While health insurance companies may not recognize neurofeedback therapy for coverage, it is an eligible service for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
